PF claim status: how to track it and what it means

Status meaningsRejection fixesUpdated 17 Oct 2026

Your PF claim status tells you where a withdrawal, transfer or pension claim sits inside EPFO: received, under review, approved for payment, settled or rejected. You can see it on the member portal, on the passbook website and in the UMANG app, all free.

This independent guide explains each status in plain words, what to do when a claim is stuck, the usual rejection reasons and their fixes, and how long settlement normally takes. If you have not filed yet, start with PF withdrawal.

Where to check PF claim status

Member portalUAN, password, OTPAll claims filed online, with tracking ID, form type and remarks
Passbook websiteUAN and passwordClaim history across member IDs, next to your passbook
UMANG appMobile OTP or MPIN, then UAN OTPQuick check on a phone

The missed call and SMS services give balance only, not claim progress, so EPF tracking always needs one of the logins above.

Track your claim on the member portal

  1. Sign in through the UAN login page.
  2. Open Online Services and select Track Claim Status.
  3. Each claim appears with its tracking ID, the form (31, 19, 10C, 10D or 13), the date received and the current status.
  4. Expand the row to read remarks. A rejection always carries a reason here.

This is the quickest EPFO claim status check online. For the EPFO passbook claim status view, log in on the passbook website and choose Claim Status in the top menu to see the same claims grouped by member ID. In UMANG, go to EPFO, Employee Centric Services and Track Claim, then enter your UAN and OTP.

What each EPFO claim status means

Exact wording varies between screens, but the stages are the same.

StatusMeaningWhat you do
Claim received or submittedEPFO has the claim; nobody has reviewed it yetWait
Pending with employerOnly in cases that still need employer approval, such as some transfersAsk HR to approve on the employer portal
Under processA dealing assistant or officer at the field office is checking it, or it is in auto modeWait; make sure KYC stays unchanged
Approved or payment under processSanctioned; the payment file is being sent to the bankWait a few working days
SettledMoney sent to your seeded bank accountCheck your bank statement
RejectedClaim closed with a reason in the remarksFix the reason and file a fresh claim
ReturnedPayment bounced back from the bankSeed a working account and contact the office

Payment under process or settled but money not credited

Payment under process means approval is done and only the bank transfer remains. It usually moves to settled within a few working days. Once settled, the credit normally reaches your account soon after, but bank holidays and weekends add time.

Ravi's Form 31 claim shows settled on a Thursday. Friday is a bank holiday, then a weekend. He checks on Tuesday, the third working day after settlement, and finds the money credited. Had it still been missing, his next step would be to ask his bank branch for an NEFT credit search using the date, then raise a grievance with the claim ID.

  • If the account was closed or the IFSC changed after seeding, the money returns to EPFO and the status may change to returned.
  • Seed a live account through KYC update, then contact the office to re-release payment.

Since EPFO stopped asking most members to upload a cheque leaf and stopped employer approval of bank seeding, rejections for unreadable cheques are far less common.

How long PF claim settlement takes

The new scheme sets a twenty day standard: EPFO should settle a complete claim within that time or tell you what is missing. Advance claims that qualify for auto mode are often settled within a few working days. Claims that need a manual check, carry an old member ID, or involve a death or pension take longer.

Treat these as general expectations rather than promises. If your claim has shown the same status for well over twenty days with no remark, it is reasonable to raise a grievance.

When to raise a grievance

  1. Note the claim tracking ID, member ID and the date of the last status change.
  2. Open epfigms.gov.in and register a grievance against the PF office named in your claim.
  3. Describe the problem in two or three lines and attach screenshots of the status page.
  4. Use the grievance number to follow up. Replies come by SMS and email.

Anyone who offers to speed up settlement for a fee, or asks for your OTP or password, is not from EPFO. Claims and grievances cost nothing.

Frequently asked questions

How to check PF claim status without login?

Claim tracking needs a login on the member portal, passbook site or UMANG. If you cannot log in, the EPFO helpline can tell you the status once you give your UAN details over the phone, but never share your OTP or password.

What is the EPFO tracking ID?

It is the reference number shown on screen and sent by SMS when you submit a claim. Use it when you call the helpline or raise a grievance.

My EPF claim status shows payment under process for days. Is something wrong?

Usually not. The approval is done and the payment is queued for the bank. If it stays there for more than a week of working days, check that your seeded account is active and then raise a grievance.

Can I file a new claim while one is under process?

Avoid it. A duplicate claim for the same member ID and purpose is often rejected. Wait for the first one to settle or be rejected.

How many days does PF withdrawal take online?

A complete claim should be settled within twenty days, and auto mode claims are often faster. Missing KYC or exit date details are the most common causes of delay.

Where do I see why my claim was rejected?

In the remarks column of Track Claim Status on the member portal, or in the SMS sent on rejection. Fix that exact issue before filing again.
